It was a time of insightful exposition of the Word of God, as the Foursquare Gospel Church (National Headquarters) Yaba, marked its 70th anniversary with a landmark colloquium on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

The event, which had as its theme, “The Past, Present, and Future of the Church”, brought together spiritual leaders, business experts and other professionals in a robust panel session aimed at defining the Church’s evolving role in society.

To set the tone for this discussion, the chairman of the occasion and a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr. Tunde Lemo, stressed the need for the Church to be intentional about nation-building through civic engagement, economic empowerment, and ethical leadership.

He noted that the next 70 years of the church must reflect not only spiritual growth but also tangible societal impact. “The church must lead in redefining integrity and nationhood. We are not just spiritual stewards but agents of civic responsibility,” he said.

He also praised Foursquare Gospel Church’s legacy over the decades and charged leaders to align ministry with measurable community impact.

The colloquium’s highlight was a richly engaging panel discussion featuring thought leaders from diverse sectors, moderated by Lydia Eke, a broadcast journalist with Unilag Radio/TV, who steered the conversation through critical topics such as generational leadership, social responsibility, digital transformation, and doctrinal continuity.

The panel session featured Rev. Tunde Ojo, the Assistant Resident Pastor, Foursquare Gospel Church Yaba, Rev. Dupe Adebanjo, Senior Pastor, Foursquare Gospel Church, Light Arena and Zonal Superintendent of Foursquare Gospel Church Light Arena Zone, and Dr. Emmanuel Tarfa, Co-founder and CEO, Krypt, a business consultancy outfit.

Rev. Ojo and Rev. Adebanjo reflected on the Church’s rich legacy and stressed the importance of passing on sound doctrine to the next generation. They challenged church leaders to re-imagine discipleship strategies that resonate with a fast-changing culture, especially among the youth.

On his part, Dr. Tarfa, bringing a marketplace perspective, encouraged the church to embrace innovation and leverage technology for ministry. He also highlighted the need for the church to take a more proactive role in addressing economic disparities through entrepreneurship and capacity development.

There was a common thread in the panel discussion: the Church must remain rooted in its eternal message while being agile enough to respond to the evolving needs of modern society.

The colloquium also served as a moment of gratitude and reflection. During the open session, members of the congregation spoke of how the national headquarters church had shaped their lives spiritually, socially, and even professionally. An extended time of worship and thanksgiving punctuated the event, creating a fitting atmosphere of reverence and celebration.

In his closing remarks, the General Overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church, Nigeria, Rev. Sam Aboyeji thanked God for seven decades of divine faithfulness and charged the congregation to remain steadfast in faith, forward-thinking in mission, and united in purpose.
