At a recent press conference held at Foursquare International Conference Centre, Orisumbare, Idimu, Lagos, the General Overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, Rev. (Dr.) Sam Aboyeji, described the upcoming International Conference for Ministers and Leaders (ICML) 2026 as more than an annual gathering. He framed it as a decisive moment for spiritual renewal, leadership empowerment, and national impact.

He explained that the press conference was convened to engage the public and reaffirm the Church’s long-standing commitment to raising equipped and effective leaders. According to him, this commitment is deeply rooted in a heritage of intentional training and capacity development that has shaped the Church since its inception. He noted that the balance of spiritual depth and practical competence remains essential, stressing that ministry without divine empowerment risks becoming mere routine.

Referencing the establishment of LIFE Theological Seminary in 1955, he pointed out that the Church’s emphasis on sound doctrine and structured training has always been central to its mission.

Speaking on the significance of ICML, Rev. Aboyeji described it as the Church’s flagship training platform, one that has grown from a modest retreat in the 1970s into a global convergence of leaders. He revealed that the 2026 edition, scheduled for April 13–16 at the Foursquare Campground along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, has already recorded over 10,000 registrations. A reflection; he said, of the increasing hunger for growth and transformation among ministers.

On the theme, “Operating in the Anointing,” he explained that it is a call for leaders to function in the power of the Holy Spirit. He emphasised that the anointing is what makes the difference in ministry, bringing transformation, healing, and lasting impact. Without it, he noted, leadership becomes burdensome and ministry is reduced to activity rather than impact.

He also highlighted that seasoned ministers, including Bro. Gbile Akanni, would be part of the conference, expressing confidence that their ministrations would further prepare participants for effective service.

Insights shared during the briefing also pointed to a growing focus on the next generation. It was noted that the Church has been intentional about raising younger leaders, with recent and coming inductions including a significant number of ministers (male and female under 30). This; he explained, reflects a deliberate strategy to ensure continuity, relevance, and strength in future ministry.

Addressing the wider context, Rev. Aboyeji drew attention to the security challenges facing Nigeria and parts of the world. While acknowledging some improvements, he maintained that issues such as insurgency, displacement, and unrest remain pressing concerns. He noted that the Church is not only taking practical steps to ensure safety during the conference but is also calling for a deeper spiritual response.

He urged Christians to rise in unity and prayer, emphasizing that the Church must stand in the gap for the nation. Praying for peace, healing, and justice, while supporting those tasked with safeguarding the country.

He encouraged believers to remain steadfast and aligned with God’s purpose, expressing confidence that when leaders truly operate in the anointing, the impact will be felt not just in ministries, but across communities and the nation at large.

In closing, he expressed appreciation to all stakeholders and affirmed that ICML 2026 is expected to spark transformation that extends far beyond the conference itself.
